Beyond carbon removal, our silicate rock dust has been shown to improve crop yields and make plants more resilient
Improved yields for farmers, remineralized soils and climate resilience
Farmers around the world, especially in the Global South, are facing increasing challenges. Soils are depleted, extreme weather events are impacting crops growth and farmers have limited resources to invest in their land.
Silica’s rock dust provides numerous benefits for farmers, so with each of our projects we are doing much more than carbon removal.
Regulated soil pH
Our silicate rock dusts add alkalinity to the soil and increase its pH. This has multiple benefits for acidic soils:
Improved nutrient availability: essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and calcium become more soluble and accessible, promoting plant growth.
Reduced toxic elements: toxic forms of aluminum and manganese that can harm roots and reduce growth are neutralized.
Enhanced microbial activity: microbial activity is enhanced, which leads to higher organic matter decomposition, nutrient cycling and soil fertility
Improved soil structure: binding of clay particles is reduced, which makes soils less compacted and improves water infiltration.
Fertilizer efficiency: availability of nutrients already in the soil and added through fertilizers is improved and leaching is reduced.
Increased nutrient flow
Our silicate rock dust provides a steady flow of nutrients that aid in plant growth and stress tolerance. These include silicon, magnesium, calcium, potassium and phosphorus.
Enhanced climate resilience
Our silicate rock dust increases the capacity of soil to store moisture, increasing crops’ capacity to endure droughts.'
Healthier and more robust plants are better equipped to survive pests and droughts.
